Modal is soft, breathable, and made to be worn every day, which means it gets washed often too. A little care goes a long way in keeping your hijabs soft, bright, and in shape for years.
Our care recommendation
For all of our modal hijabs, we recommend:
- Hand wash, or use a delicate cycle. Gentle washing protects the fibers and keeps the drape soft.
- Wash with like colors. This keeps darker shades from transferring onto lighter ones.
- Air dry. Skip the dryer and let your hijab dry naturally.
Washing tips
- Use a mesh laundry bag if you machine wash, so hijabs don't tangle or snag on zippers and hooks.
- Use a mild detergent and skip bleach.
- Wash newer and darker hijabs together the first few times.
Drying tips
- Lay flat or hang over a rack away from direct heat.
- Keep bright colors out of strong direct sunlight while drying to help prevent fading.
Removing wrinkles
Modal can be prone to wrinkles, so a quick refresh helps. A handheld steamer is the gentlest option. If you iron, use a low setting and keep the iron moving.
Caring for special finishes
- Crinkle modal: Skip the iron entirely. Twist the hijab gently while damp and let it air dry to keep its texture.
- Hand-dyed ombre: Wash separately the first few times to protect the gradient.
- Printed modal: Wash inside out in a mesh bag to keep prints crisp.
Storing your hijabs
Fold or roll hijabs loosely, or hang them on a multi-loop scarf hanger. Avoid tight clips, which can leave marks. Rolling works especially well for crinkle styles and for packing.
