Printed Modal Hijab - Emerald Mosaic

Sarah Waithe is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Scarborough, Tkaronto. Working across painting, digital media, and community arts, Sarah’s practice is deeply rooted in her experiences as a Black Muslim woman of Moroccan and Trinidadian descent. Her work explores the intersections of memory, migration, and identity, weaving together Afro-futurism, abstraction, and ancestral aesthetics to create vibrant, storytelling-rich pieces. This scarf is inspired by Moroccan zellige tilework, which has always felt like a quiet memory passed down through generations. The patterns, the deep blues, and the earthy warmth speak to her Moroccan and Trinidadian roots through the layered journey of being a Black Muslim woman growing up between cultures.
