How to Style a Modal Hijab: 6 Easy Everyday Styles

Modal is one of the easiest fabrics to style because it drapes softly and holds its place without much effort. Whether you have five minutes before school drop-off or you're getting ready for a wedding, here are six styles to try.

Before you start

  • Wear an underscarf or cap to keep everything secure and smooth.
  • Keep a few pins and a magnet or two nearby.
  • Use a Regular size (180 x 70 cm) for most of these styles. Choose Long for the more voluminous looks.

1. The everyday simple wrap

Drape the hijab over your head with one side slightly longer. Pin under the chin, bring the longer side across the front and over the opposite shoulder, then secure it at the side. It takes under a minute and works for nearly everything.

2. The tucked front

Start the same way, but tuck both ends into the neckline of your top or dress instead of letting them hang. This keeps the hijab neat while you're running errands, cooking, or chasing kids.

3. The soft drape

Pin under the chin and let both sides fall loosely down the front. Pull the fabric slightly forward around the face for a softer frame. This style shows off a beautiful print or ombre, like Plum Fudge.

4. The wrapped back

Bring the longer side across the front, around the back of the head, and pin it at the side. This is a secure, practical style for workdays and travel.

5. The voluminous occasion wrap

Use a Long modal hijab. Loosely gather the fabric as you wrap it around, letting it create soft folds rather than pulling it flat. Pin in a few places to hold the volume. Pair it with a structured dress like the Lace Up Back Maxi Dress for weddings and Eid.

6. The crinkle shortcut

On days you don't want to think about it, reach for a crinkle modal like Thyme. The texture grips on its own, so even the simplest wrap looks finished and stays put all day.

A few styling tips

  • Match the hijab to the outfit's tone, not just its color. Earthy neutrals like Brownie and Pecan make almost any outfit look intentional.
  • Let one piece lead. A printed hijab pairs best with a solid outfit, and a patterned dress pairs best with a solid hijab.
  • Steam, don't iron hard. A quick steam gets modal ready to wear without flattening its drape.
